On behalf on Sheridan Historical Society
The Sheridan Historical Society will hold a fundraising event at Boxley Cabin in Veterans Park in beautiful uptown Sheridan on Saturday, Sept. 18. The supper begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 6:30 p.m.
For the meager price of $8, you will get a healthy heaping helping of hot and hardy beans and ham, served with cornbread and fried potatoes and, of course, a drink. Yes, carry out will be available, but you are invited to bring your lawn chair and sit a spell and enjoy listening to the Thorntown Bluegrass Pickers while you chow down.
If it is warm, you might want to bring some bug spray. If it is cool, you might want to bring a warm coat or blanket (or both). And if it rains, you won’t have to worry because the supper will be postponed entirely to a later date.
Funds collected will be used to offset the operating expenses of the Historical Society’s Museum located at 315 S. Main St. If you have not had a chance to visit the new museum, you’re invited to come in for a tour. The museum is open to the public on Tuesday and Friday afternoons of each week from 1 to 4 p.m. If you cannot make it during our open hours, please call (317) 758-5054 and leave a message so museum staff can contact you to set up a tour appointment.
Hope to see you on Saturday evening, Sept. 18 so you can get your fill of ham and beans, cornbread, and fried taters. God willing and the creek don’t rise, y’all come on over.
About the Sheridan Historical Society
The Sheridan Historical Society is a not-for-profit entity organized to preserve the history and cultural heritage that makes this small community proud. A lot of people don’t know the story of Sheridan, the story of George Boxley, the fact that the town is in the Buttonwood swamp or that it was once called Millwood. If you stop by the museum, you will hear all about it, along with other trivial and fun facts about Sheridan and the nice people who live here.
