The REPORTER

Leo Wessel just keeps on winning.

Only a few weeks after claiming the IHSAA boys golf state championship, the Guerin Catholic senior-to-be won another big title: The Boys-Indiana Junior PGA Championship. That tournament took place July 6 and 7 at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru.

Wessel finished with a 36-hole score of 141, going three under par for the event. He began with a first-round score of four-under par 68, the lowest 18-hole round of the event, then scored 73 in the second round. Wessel had eight birdies for the entire round, and in fact began his first round with three straight birdies.

Westfield had three golfers finish in the top five. Shamrocks junior-to-be Jake Cesare placed third with a 73-70=143, putting him one under par for the event. Cesare also drained eight birdies during the tournament.

Will Harvey, another incoming Westfield junior, went even par for the tournament, finishing 75-69=144. Harvey totaled 11 birdies over his two rounds, including six in the second round.

Ryan Cesare, an incoming sophomore for the ‘Rocks, tied for fifth place with a 74-71=145. He made four birdies in his second round.
