GC’s Hansen sets rebounding mark during Fort Wayne victory

Guerin Catholic beat parochial rival Bishop Luers 68-47 in boys basketball action Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne.
The Golden Eagles (8-5) lead from the opening tip, but the Knights stayed in striking distance until after halftime. However GC got on a 23-2 run to start the third quarter eventually held a 55-28 lead at the end of the stanza.
Jack Hansen had 25 points while setting the school’s single-game rebound record, grabbing 20 caroms. The previous record was held by Luke Hacherl when he grabbed 17 rebounds at Lebanon on Jan. 16, 2010. Teammate Zach Munson also had a double-double for the Golden Eagles, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Luke Godfrey was a third double-digit scorer for Coach Pete Smith’s club with 12 points.
For the game Guerin Catholic outrebounded Luers 47-26. “That’s a lot of rebounds for one player,” said Smith in regards to Hansen’s feat. “Jack had six offensive boards and just was around the ball all game. It was a real solid effort.”
GC held Luers to 27 percent field goal shooting (17-63) on the Knights’ home court, while shooting almost 50 percent shooting from the field (26-53) themselves. It was the team’s third victory in five meetings between the schools.
The Golden Eagles will play their seventh straight game away from home next Friday night in Indianapolis at Broad Ripple.
