There were reports of birdies flying all over the place Wednesday at Rock Hollow Golf Course in Peru.
Most of those birds were coming from the golf club of one man: Ty Gingerich. The Guerin Catholic and University of Cincinnati graduate stormed his way to the 124th Indiana Amateur Championship after an incredible third round to finish the tournament.
Gingerich went nine under par for his final 18 holes, scoring a 63. His round consisted of nine birdies, including seven on the front nine. Gingerich also had eight pars and one bogey. Gingerich began Wednesday in third place and finished the event 13 under par, with a three-day total of 203.
Cole Starnes, a 2023 Hamilton Southeastern graduate now playing for Indiana University, was the tournament runner-up with a three-day score of 207. A co-leader after the first two rounds, Starnes scored a four under 68 during his third round, making an eagle on the 10th hole, in addition to seven birdies.
There was one more Hamilton County golfer placing in the top 10. Jake Cesare, an incoming senior for Westfield, tied for eighth place with a score of 214. Cesare went one under par for this third round, scoring a 71 and making two birdies.
