Gaylord “Bud” Russell

September 23, 1942 – August 20, 2017

Gaylord “Bud” Russell, 74, Noblesville, passed away August 20, 2017. He was born September 23, 1942, in Elkhart, the son of the late Loren and Lola (McHenry) Russell. He married Michelle Kraus on May 18, 1999.

After attending Purdue University, Bud went to work for the family business, Loren H. Russell Insurance Agency in Elkhart. He became very active in the local Democratic Party serving successfully as a campaign manager and later being appointed the youngest City Controller to have served at that time. After being stricken with polio as a young child, Bud became passionate with serving through the March of Dimes, even being able to meet Dr. Jonas Salk, the developer of the Salk vaccine for polio which ended the polio epidemic.

Bud retired as Vice-President of Administrative Services with NBD Insurance (fka St. Joe Valley Bank and Midwest Commerce Insurance) after 35 years of service.

He was an active member of the Noblesville Masonic Lodge #57 and a former volunteer for SCORE.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Michelle Russell; two children, Tracy Russell Bosscher and Kevin Russell; two step-sons, Jerry (Cindy) Smith and Ryan (Erin Roache) Smith; six grandchildren, Lauren, Justin, Jerrod, Ethan, Jacob and Lyla; two sisters, Marian McMullen and Lois (Graham) Fleming; Family of the Heart, Wendy (Shing Lin) Zhao and their children Carly, Tony, Joni-Michelle, Jenny (Hui Zhao) Liu and their children, Nicole and Nathan; and life-long chosen sister, Joanne McDonnell. He was preceded in passing by his first wife, Patricia Ruple Russell in 1998.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017, at the Noblesville Masonic Lodge #57, 295 South 9th St., Noblesville. A brief Masonic ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the March of Dimes. Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
