Hamilton County is turning 200 in 2023! Jessica Petty, a 2015 Hamilton Heights graduate, is helping to lead the way as the Hamilton County Bicentennial Coordinator. The community is invited to get involved and be a part of this milestone celebration. To help the Bicentennial Planning Committee better plan for programs for the celebration, kindly take a few minutes to complete a Community Survey that can be found here. Speaking of being involved, we value public participation and recognize the importance of public input on issues affecting the community and all things Hamilton Heights. Our School Board meeting dates, times, locations, agendas, and past meeting minutes can be found on our website. In fact, we just released our Board meeting calendar for 2022. Most of these meetings will be conducted at the new Hamilton Heights Student Activity Center at 420 W. North St., Arcadia. Click here to find the dates on our website.
If you are looking for something cool to do this weekend, I highly recommend attending Hamilton Heights Drama Department’s fall play, You Have the Right to Remain Dead by Pat Cook. There will be three performances of the play, directed by Hamilton Heights English Teacher and Drama Club Sponsor Brooks Myers, in collaboration with her theatre arts class. The play brings together the best elements of comedy, intrigue, suspense, and audience participation in this who-done-it murder mystery. Tickets are $5 and are available online here. All proceeds benefit the High School Drama Department.
On another note of community interest, our Food Pantry will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15 at the high school. Enter through Door A.
This is National School Psychology Week (NSPW) and I want to give a shout out to the invaluable work school psychologists and other educators do to help our students thrive. This year’s theme is “Let’s Get in GEAR.” The theme’s acronym provides a challenge to Grow both personally and professionally. It encourages us to Engage in best practices and Advocate for children’s access to mental health and learning supports. To Rise implies resilience and renewal despite the challenges of the past. When we get in gear, we move together. When one gear moves, the gears connected to it move as well. When we move together there is a positive synergy that builds and becomes greater than any single effort. #SchoolPsychWeek
Thursday was Veterans Day. This occasion gives us the opportunity to thank our veterans for always keeping the nation before themselves. I would like to recognize and express my gratitude to those men and women, who answered the call to serve, and for the sacrifices they have made so that we can enjoy the freedoms and life we lead today. Please join me in taking a moment, not just on Veterans Day but any day there is an opportunity to thank and honor those who have served our country. We will always remember the dedication and sacrifice of our veteran families. Thank you!
