Heights’ Reaching New Heights program inspires students
Hamilton Heights High School students at all grade levels recently took advantage of a variety of career exploration activities to learn more about specialty pathways, jobs, and careers. These activities revolve around the district’s new Reaching New Heights program to better prepare students for college and careers.
The freshman class spent their Student Resource Time (SRT) engaged in a community service activity with staff from the Noblesville-based International Disaster Emergency Service (IDES). Together they packed some 22,000 meals in about an hour. IDES-packaged meals bring help and hope to those in need around the world.
The sophomore class took a road trip to the John Hinds Career Center in Elwood. Here they had the opportunity to explore Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings, learn more about Heights’ CTE offering through the Center, and meet professionals in the trades as they look to align their skills and interests into a pathway to an exciting and dynamic career.
For the junior and senior classes, who are preparing for their future careers by engaging in advanced courses and certification programs, taking college visits, attended the first of two onsite mini-career fairs to explore post-secondary education options. This fair focused on professionals in the fields of health services, education, business, and other human and social services.
Special thanks to the following businesses and organizations:
Priority Risk Management, Grand Park, Doak Financial, Goodes Security Consulting, Gordon Insurance, Conner Prairie, CIESC, IUK, Hamilton County Health Department, Cicero Fire, Hamilton County Sheriff Department, and Hamilton County Public Safety Communications, who helped make this career fair an engaging and worthwhile event for students.
