From drawing to ceramics, painting to digital art, Fishers Art Center announces new classes for adults & kids

This fall, the Fishers Art Center is offering more than 100 multi-week classes for adults and kids and 30 one-time “Make It Take It” workshops – all taught by professional artists from around central Indiana – at the new Fishers Art Center, located inside Fishers City Hall at 1 Municipal Drive just off 116^th Street near the Nickel Plate Trail.

“If you are curious or creative, want to learn something new or build on your skills, we have something for you,” said Mark Williams, president of the Art Center. “Amazing art experiences for all ages are now available, and not far from home.”

The Fishers Art Center, a partnership between the City of Fishers and Indy Art Center, features 1,200 square feet for art exhibitions, three art studios, and a flexible theater with multiple configuration options to accommodate performances, meetings, events, and of course, classes. Adults will find a variety of classes for beginners to advanced artists in drawing, painting, clay, digital, print making, and more.

It’s also a place where parents can make art alongside their children as young as age 2 in weekend classes like “Little Big Art: Messy Art,” or in one-session drop-classes, like “Art & Stories” for 2- to 4-year-olds. There are many different class options for children ages 4 to 14, as well as more advanced options for high school art students in “Teen Institute” classes. Classes include clay, painting, drawing, character design, and even digital art for children and teens.

Two-hour Make It Take It (MITI) classes include a “Paint Your Pet!” painting class, as well as “Clay Play Wheel” on the pottery wheel and a ”Digital Art on the iPad” class.

The Fishers Art Center also offers private lessons, classes for homeschooled children, as well as one-day Fall Break Camps for children ages 6 to 14 and team-building workshops. To learn all about classes go to FishersArtCenter.org.

If you love art, but aren’t ready to start creating, you can always stop by to see art. Artworks by Kurt Vonnegut featured in Balderdash continues through Aug. 18. On Sept. 3, the Art Center will feature works by Austen Brantley, a sculptor from Detroit, and Susan Tennant, a sculptor based in Indianapolis, with “Interwoven.” The Art Center is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
