At about 5 p.m. on Friday, Fishers firefighters were called to the Studio 6 Motel, 8253 North by Northeast Blvd., for a structure fire.
Firefighters found an exterior fire that had burnt up the side of the building and extended into the first floor. It took firefighters an hour to extinguish the flames displacing dozens of tenants.
The American Red Cross was on the scene to assist victims and the Fishers Police Department assisted with traffic. Investigators say the cause is determined to be improperly discarded smoking material in the mulch next to the building.
No dollar loss has been determined at this time. One civilian was injured and transported to the hospital.
