Thirteen local attorneys applying for judge in Hamilton Superior Court 6 were interviewed Monday. They are seeking to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Gail Bardach, which becomes effective July 1. Results of the interviews will go to Gov. Eric Holcomb, who appoints a judge to serve Bardach’s unexpired term, which extends to Dec. 31, 2023. Names of the applicants have not been released.

Dick Nyers, former Carmel High School football coach, is credited with establishing a winning football tradition at CHS and leading the organization of the Carmel Dads Club. Now retired and living in Columbus, Ind., he was guest of honor Monday night at the club’s Corporate Sponsor Appreciation Dinner. Nyers, 87, spoke at the event held in the Dads Club new fieldhouse. He related memories of his coaching days in the 1950s-60s and earlier times as a Baltimore Colts team member.

There will be a recount of votes in the Republican primary contest for State House District 32. The county elections office confirmed yesterday that the request had been made. In Hamilton County returns, Fred Glynn received 30 more votes than Suzie Jaworowski. But, the vote drew even closer when precincts in Marion County’s portion of the district showed Glynn ahead by only six votes. The district was newly created this year, so there is no incumbent.

Noblesville veterans organizations will conduct their annual Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30. An 11 a.m. memorial is planned at the county courthouse square monument. American Legion and VFW honor guards perform the public ceremonies at the county’s major county cemeteries. A complete listing will be published when available.

The American Recovery Plan Act (Covid) committee for Hamilton County held a meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday in the County Commissioners conference room. The agenda listed consideration of items tabled from the committee’s last meeting, including requests from several townships for funds to meet needs incurred during the pandemic. The county will soon receive the second half of its $65 million federal grant. Planned allocations have not been announced.

The Carmel City Council voted down a resolution proposed by some members to remove council member Bruce Kimball who is ill and has been unable to attend meetings for the past year and a half. The resolution failed on a 4-4 tie vote. Kimball will continue to draw his $21,000 salary and benefits. His term ends on Dec. 31, 2023.
