Franklin pulls away from HSE

Hamilton Southeastern dropped its first game of the season on Wednesday, falling to Class 4A No. 5 Franklin Community 74-57 at the Royals’ gym.
Southeastern, ranked No. 8 in 4A, got off to a great start against the Grizzly Cubs, leading 18-8 after the first quarter. But Franklin outscored the Royals in each of the next three periods. Southeastern led 31-30 at halftime, but the Grizzly Cubs had pulled ahead 51-47 after three quarters, then pulled away in the fourth by scoring 23 points.
Riley Makalusky led HSE by scoring 16 points, followed by 10 points each from Makayla Hinshaw, Olivia Brown and Maya Makalusky. Teegan Acres collected eight rebounds while Brown handed out four assists.
The Royals are 3-1 and will travel to Columbus East on Saturday for a 5:45 p.m. game.
