Franklin Central Flashes Showcase: Mathison, Quagliaroli, Cebalo are mile winners

Several Hamilton County distance runners competed in the annual Franklin Central Flashes Showcase Friday night, and proved that the present and future of running here is bright.
First, the present. Carmel’s Kole Mathison won the fast heat of the boys one-mile run, clocking in at 4 minutes, 15.83 seconds, beating out Columbus North’s Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff by a quarter of a second. Westfield’s Kai Connor finished a solid fifth, in a time of 4:17.32. The Greyhounds won the 4×800 relay as well.
As for the future, Fishers freshman Sam Quagliaroli provided the news there. The Tigers star won the fast heat of the boys freshman mile race, completing his run in 4:37.59. Two other county runners placed in the top four: Carmel’s Kiefer Jay was third (4:39.55) and Noblesville’s Jack Strong was fourth (4:41.38).
In the girls races, the Greyhounds’ Olivia Cebalo was first in Heat 1 of the mile, finishing in a time of 5:25.28. Carmel’s Alivia Romaniuk had the fastest county time of the night, placing ninth in the fast heat with a time of 5:10.29.
