Franciscan Health to build orthopedic hospital in Carmel

Franciscan Health on Wednesday announced plans to build a $130 million orthopedic specialty hospital.

The site on a tract just east of North Illinois Street between West 106th and West 116th streets will include the hospital, a medical office building and a parking garage with a sky bridge to the hospital, the announcement said.

It also said, “Further study will be conducted by Franciscan Health to determine more definition and detail regarding the project.”

The project is known as the Franciscan Health Orthopedic Center of Excellence. The Carmel Plan Commission will get its first look at the project at a public meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 in Carmel City Hall.

Dr. James Callaghan, president and CEO for Franciscan Health Central Indiana, said in the statement, “Our expansion efforts are a natural extension of our expertise. In our continued commitment to our community, we have evaluated select opportunities that will improve care for more patients.”
