Football: A look ahead at Friday night’s gridiron matchups

Carmel: The Class 6A No. 7 Greyhounds play their first home game of the season Friday by taking on Christian Brothers from St. Louis.

This will be the first game of the season for the Cadets, who are the defending Missouri Class 6 state champions. Christian Brothers will finish its season playing another Indiana School, traveling to Warren Central on Oct. 13.

Carmel won its opener last week, going to Homestead and winning 14-7.

Fishers: The 6A No. 8 Tigers go on the road this week to play Pike. The Red Devils were edged out by Zionsville last week 24-21, while Fishers sailed past North Central 44-0.

Guerin Catholic: The 3A No. 2 Golden Eagles welcome 2A No. 3 Lafayette Central Catholic in the annual Bishop’s Cup game. Guerin Catholic beat McCutcheon 18-10 on the road last week; Ryan Zimmerman threw for two touchdowns last week, one each to Jack Cherry and Alex Gibbs.

The Knights won their opener last week against Seeger, 35-8.

Hamilton Heights: The Huskies take on North Montgomery Friday at home. The Chargers are coming off a 40-16 season-opening win against North Putnam, while Heights beat Lapel 26-14.

Hamilton Southeastern: The 6A No. 4 Royals play their first away game on Friday, at North Central. The Royals opened their season with a home win over Fort Wayne Carroll 28-14 in a re-match of last year’s 6A north semi-state.

Noblesville: The Millers play their first game at Beaver Materials Field on Friday, taking on Homestead. Noblesville won a season-opener at Lucas Oil Stadium last Friday, defeating Mount Vernon 48-30.

Sheridan: The 1A No. 8 Blackhawks play at Bud Wright Stadium for the first time on Friday, taking on North Miami. The Warriors dropped their opener to Manchester 34-24 last week, while Sheridan is looking for a win after falling at Western Boone last week 35-16.

Westfield: The 6A No. 6 Shamrocks play the first of two consecutive road games on Friday, traveling to Lawrence Central. The Bears sailed past Arsenal Tech 54-0 last week, while Westfield beat New Palestine 34-14.
