The Hamilton Heights wrestling team finished second at the Hoosier Conference meet, which took place last Saturday at Western.
The host Panthers won the meet by scoring 273 points, while the Huskies totaled 242 points. Western won eight of the 14 weight classes on its way to the team championship.
Heights held its own, with four individual champions and three more wrestlers finishing second. Carson Fettig was the Huskies’ first winner, taking the 145-pound division with a 9-2 decision over Northwestern’s Jansen Slate.
Jimmy Lacey picked up a victory at 170 pounds by pinning West Lafayette’s Valin Hedden in the third period of the final. Lacey won his other two matches with first-period falls.
Next up was Evan Tilton at 182 pounds, and he kept his unbeaten season rolling with a 56-second pin over Michael Banner of Lewis Cass. Tilton won his other two matches with first-period falls as well, and is now 36-0 for the season.
Josh Brown had an easy day, winning at 220 pounds. Brown also won all three of his matches by pin, defeating Saige Brandt of Twin Lakes in the championship.
Heights’ three runners-up were Jaylyn Pugh at 126, Issac Kuhn at 132 and Michael Cain at 160. Three more Huskies finished third in their classes: Alex Furst at 138, Blane Zachary at 152 and Mason Moran at 285.
Kendall Moe, fresh off winning at the IHSGW state finals, came back to finish fourth at 106 pounds. Two more Huskies got fifth-place results: Cooper Doucett at 113 and Justin Tilton at 120.

Hamilton County’s four Hoosier Crossroads Conference wrestling teams traveled to Brownsburg last Saturday to compete in the HCC meet.
Hamilton Southeastern had the highest county finish, placing fourth with 156 points. The Royals had two individual champions: Zach Lang at 152 pounds and Zach Wagner at 170; Wagner won his match with a second-period pin. Dom Burgett was the runner-up at 285; he fell to Brownsburg’s Leighton Jones in a 3-1 decision. It was the first time anyone had beaten Burgett all season, with the senior holding a record of 23-1.
Fishers scored 149 points to place fifth. Three Tigers wrestlers were runners-up in their weight classes: Griffin Ingalls at 126, Quenton Riley at 132 and Xavier Smith at 160.
Westfield placed seventh with 96.5 points and Noblesville was eighth with 94 points. Both schools had one individual champion: The Shamrocks’ Ike O’Neill won at 145 pounds with a 5-0 decision over Brownsburg’s Mason Day, while Austin Hastings triumphed at 220 with an 11-2 major decision against Franklin Central’s Talan Humphrey.
Brownsburg won the team championship by scoring 254.5 points, well ahead of Zionsville’s 169.5. The Bulldogs had five individual champions and three more runners-up.
