The 12th annual Noblesville Creates Comic Book in a Day Challenge, presented by Fishers Arts and Culture Commission and held at the Ignite Studio in the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers, was a huge success.

Noblesville Creates founded this event to celebrate and grow the comics community – the network of people who love comics, who collect comics, and who create comics. This community came out in force for this year’s event, including 91 contestants, six professional comic book artists, and over 400 visitors curious about comics in general.

On the Friday before the day of the Challenge, Noblesville Creates hosted a special VIP event for its members and donors. During the event, the Comic Book in a Day 2025 Featured Artists partnered with One Hope Wine to design custom wine labels, which were then auctioned off to attendees. Noblesville Creates will continue offering exclusive events for its members and donors, providing unique opportunities to enjoy one-of-a-kind art pieces and activities. To be invited to future VIP events, become a member at this link.

This year, Comic Book in a Day was broken up into three competitions, an in-person Adult/Teen Division, Youth Division, and an Online Division. Those who participated in the Challenges had the opportunity to create a comic book from scratch with the help of Featured Artists/Judges Stuart Sayger, Gavin Smith, Deon Parson (widely recognized by the pen name “Supr Dee”), and Joseph Haas, two Host Artists – Erik Lundorf and Victor Dandridge – and additional staff.

The participants had a blast working on their individual comics, learning from the Featured Artists/Judges and Host Artists, participating in fun comic-themed activities, shopping from the Featured Artists’ booths, and mingling with the other participants.

The activities, supplies, and other amenities for participants were made possible by sponsors Fishers Arts and Culture Commission, Browning Day, Griffy’s Art Supply, Baird Creative :: Design Studio, Comic Carnival, Gal’s Guide Library, Ringling College of Art & Design, Knight’s Hall, and Collectors Emporium.

The Ignite Studio at Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers generously and eagerly opened its doors to the comics community this year, proving once again that it is a unique and tremendous asset to community life and the creative economy of Fishers. The library also paid for the fees for the professional judges, supplied materials to many contestants, and provided refreshments during the awards ceremony.

At the end of the event, each artist was given an opportunity to present their comic to the Featured Artists, staff, and visitors. The comics created by the participants were judged by the Featured Artists, who determined the winners of each award category. The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers, during which each award winner was announced and given a prize.

The 91 contestants and six professional artists together generated nearly 300 pages of brand-new comic art during the competition. This artwork will be on display at the Hamilton East Public Library in Fishers through Feb. 21, and visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite on the Noblesville Creates Facebook channels. Vote by “liking” your favorite comic of each division. The People’s Choice Award will be announced just after the exhibit ends.
