Fishers shuts out North Central in season opener

Fishers cruised to an opening-victory at North Central on Friday, winning 34-0.

The Tigers were on the scoreboard within the first two minutes, as Khobie Martin made an 8-yard touchdown run to begin the Fishers scoring. Carson Dunn added a one-yard touchdown dash late in the period, giving the Tigers a 13-0 lead.

Dunn got his second TD of the game in the second quarter, this one a 12-yard run. Fishers led 20-0 at halftime. Martin then made a two-yard rush in the third quarter for another touchdown.

“Junior Khobie Martin really stepped up big for his first varsity start and had a big game with two touchdowns,” said Tigers coach Curt Funk. “Khobie and Carson Dunn were a nice one-two punch for us on offense.”

Martin led the rushing with 88 yards, while Dunn gained 56 yards.

Fishers then got a defensive score, as Grady Stanley made an interception at the Panthers’ 46-yard line and took it into the end zone.

“I thought our defense did a fabulous job of knowing their assignments and flying to the football and our defensive staff did a good job of preparing our kids for this game tonight,” said Funk.

Jon Tangara made four extra-point kicks for Fishers.

“I was real proud of our kids and the effort that they showed tonight,” said Tigers coach Curt Funk. “They were rewarded for their hard work that they put in the off-season and it showed tonight. Being Week 1, we did make some mistakes, but we feel like the mistakes that we made we can correct.”

Fishers hosts Pike next Friday for its home opener.
