Fishers police, fire save life at Geist Reservoir in weekend water rescue

On Sunday afternoon at 2:40 p.m., Fishers police and fire were called to Geist Reservoir to make a water rescue. The first rescue boat was in the water seven minutes later.

Initial reports indicated two people were in the water. The first had self-rescued, but the second was unaccounted for.

Divers were deployed based on witness accounts in the area of the incident. Prior to arrival, witnesses were able to mark an area they believed the victim was last seen. This gave divers a starting point for their search.

Once divers located the second individual, that person was brought to shore and transported to IU Saxony hospital.

First responders were assisted by the Fishers Police Department, the Indianapolis Police Department, and the Indiana DNR. Because the incident occurred on water, the DNR is the investigative agency.

Fishers police and fire remind boaters to always have a life vest with you in the water, especially when you’re on water you can’t see into. Also, remember that whenever you see an emergency boat in the water, stay far away from its location.
