The Fishers girls swim team continued its sectional championship streak last Saturday.
The host Tigers outdueled Hamilton Southeastern for the sectional crown, scoring 522 points to the Royals’ 490 points. Both teams also qualified 14 swims for Friday’s state preliminaries, which take place at the IU Natatorium.
Fishers won seven events, including two from sophomore Emily Wolf, who claimed the butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Wolf won the 500 free in a new sectional record time of 4 minutes, 43.89 seconds.

“Tough people can do hard things,” said Tigers coach Joe Keller. “And people that are determined to achieve can do things that most people can’t do. She’s demonstrating that, and we threw that challenge to her, and I think it’s going to work out quite well.”
Other Tigers that won individual events were Emma Schumacher in the 200 free, Emma Schwertfeger in the 100 free and Claire Francis in the breaststroke. Fishers also won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
The Tigers were second in the medley relay, but qualified for state by finishing under the state cut time. Fishers also got all three of its individual medley swimmers under the cut: Avery Hannon, Francis and Mia Wilson.
Other state cut qualifiers for the Tigers were Schwertfeger in the 50 free, Schumacher in the 500 free and Polina Sopova in the breaststroke. Blair Kallas placed fourth in diving and moves on to the Tuesday diving regional at Southeastern.
Keller called Fishers’ success “a total team effort,” saying that “the team helped fuel some of those individual performances today.”
The Royals won four events, starting with the medley relay. Freshman Kendall Dieckman was first in the IM, while Kiley Zoeller won the 50 free. Naomi Haines placed first in the backstroke.
