The Fishers girls soccer team will begin its season Saturday morning with a road trip and a young squad.
Second-year coach Harold Spooner said that the Tigers have six seniors this year “so we’re relatively young, but they have bonded quite well.” And there are several returning players as well; in fact, all six of this year’s seniors return after playing on the Fishers team in their junior year. That includes defender Anna Pettit and midfielder Lilly Touhy.
Two key juniors returning are defensive/midfield swings Addie Allgeier and Sienna Mullen. McKinely Boland and Emily Streeter both return as well. The Tigers also have five sophomores and two freshmen, including forward Elise May.
“The practices have been going great so far,” said Spooner. “We as a staff are excited to see how this team will do against our always tough competition. We have an excellent group to work with this year because they are all high character people and work extremely hard. There is a positive energy with this team that makes practices both fun and competitive at the same time.”
Fishers travels to McCutcheon Saturday morning for its opening game, then plays its next two contests at home, welcoming Pendleton Heights on Monday and Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Westfield on Wednesday.
“Because of our youth there are a few questions about how we will stack up to the competition,” said Spooner. “There may be some growing pains, but I believe we will be up to the challenge. I really believe it’s a special group to work with and am very excited to see how our hard work translates to the field.”
