Fishers Fire named ALS Fire Provider of the Year

On Friday, Sept. 14, the Fishers Fire Department was presented the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association Advanced Life Support (ALS) Fire Provider of the Year Award. Chief Steven Orusa accepted the award at the annual Indiana Emergency Response Conference (IERC) held in Indianapolis.

The award criteria is: “The Provider of the year at each certification level should demonstrate a commitment not only to its personnel and patients, but the community it serves. A degree of professionalism is the expected norm of all providers. The Provider of the Year should possesses unique qualities that serve to elevate the standard of the professionalism and the quality of patient care throughout the EMS industry.”

Dr. Michael Kaufmann from St. Vincent Ascension Hospital nominated the department based on its activity, creativity and operability of Community Paramedicine, Opioid Addiction and Mental Health Initiatives.

Orusa said, “This award is accepted on behalf of the men and women of the Fishers Fire Department that show up to work every day with a display of professionalism, empathy and experience. Every day the bar is set by our firefighters to make the Fishers community safe, accessible and visionary for tomorrow.”
