Fishers falls to No. 1 Brownsburg

Fishers had a tough assignment Friday night, hosting Brownsburg for its Homecoming game.

The Tigers did all they could against the top team in Class 6A, but the Bulldogs got a second-quarter lead and that led them to a 41-28 victory. Brownsburg is unbeaten for the season at 5-0 and is 2-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.

“We knew it was going to be a tough challenge going against Brownsburg,” said Fishers coach Curt Funk. “They’re ranked No. 1 for a reason. They are solid in all three phases of the game and we knew we were going to have to play our best football of the year to come out victorious, and unfortunately, we weren’t able to.”

The Bulldogs scored first on a four-yard touchdown pass with 3:40 left in the opening quarter. Fishers answered with less than a minute to go, as JonAnthony Hall caught a throw from Lucas Minns and took it 71 yards to score. Tate Talbot’s extra-point kick tied the game at 7-7.

But Brownsburg’s Jayden Whitaker threw two second-quarter touchdown passes, which put the Bulldogs up 21-7. The Tigers trimmed that lead to 21-14 by halftime, with Hall and Minns teaming up again for a six-yard touchdown pass.

Brownsburg added a field goal and a 23-yard touchdown rush by Ariyan Balance in the third quarter, while shutting out Fishers in that period. Khobie Martin made a six-yard touchdown run in the early part of the fourth period, but the Bulldogs tacked on another TD and field goal to put the game out of reach.

The Tigers got one last score from Minns, as he tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Carson Dunn. Minns finished the game 13-of-27, totaling 223 yards. Dunn and Aidan Zimmer both had four catches, while Hall made three receptions.

Fishers is 0-2 in HCC play and 3-2 overall. The Tigers play at Avon next Friday.
