Fishers’ 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration will offer residents several ways to give back to the community and celebrate the message of kindness from MLK Jr., with a community-wide food drive and volunteer opportunities throughout the city.
Community-wide food drive
With local food pantries experiencing an increase in demand and a decrease in supply, the City of Fishers will hold a community-wide food drive on Monday, Jan. 16. Food donations will be collected with a Pack the Bus event at the city’s parks and all three Fishers Kroger stores from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Donations will be collected at the following parks and Kroger stores:
- Brooks School Park: 11780 Brooks School Road
- Cyntheanne Park: 12383 Cyntheanne Road
- Flat Fork Creek Park: 16141 E. 101st St.
- Harrison Thompson Park: 13573 Conner Knoll Pkwy.
- Nickel Plate Amphitheater: 6 Municipal Drive
- Holland Park: 1 Park Drive
- Saxony Hall: 13362 Pennington Road
- Heritage Park: 10595 Eller Road
- Kroger: 9799 E. 116th St.
- Kroger: 11700 Olio Road
- Kroger: 7272 Fishers Crossing Drive
In addition, residents can order donations from the city’s Amazon Wish List.
Volunteer opportunities
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. This year, Fishers residents are invited to volunteer with the city.
- Christmas tree mulch spread at Billericay Park: Saturday, Jan. 14, 9 to 10:30 a.m.
- Onion seed planting at the Fishers AgriPark: Saturday, Jan. 14, 9:30 to 11 a.m.
