Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness testified on Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse in support of legislation to combat the rise in violent crime in Central Indiana, which is at an all-time high.
House Bill 1558 would establish the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force, creating a regional partnership across eight Central Indiana counties to trace illegal guns and link them to violent crimes throughout the region.
HB 1558 builds off the successful partnership between the Fishers Police Department and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) to trace illegal guns through the Indianapolis Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC). Since this partnership began in 2019, a total of 183 guns confiscated by Fishers Police have been processed and linked to 101 violent crimes in the region, including dozens of crimes committed across Central Indiana by the criminals who shot and killed Fishers K-9 Officer Harlej.
