Dear Editor:
Chuck Goodrich’s recent column highlighting the success of Career Scholarship Accounts demonstrates how Indiana continues to lead the way in innovative education solutions.
I was proud to support Rep. Goodrich while he was in the State Legislature and am encouraged that he remains a thought leader on such important issues. As he noted in his piece, these scholarships tear down so many barriers that prevent students from accessing valuable work-based learning opportunities. His vision for expanding educational pathways continues to make a real difference for Hoosier students to this day.
But CSAs are just one part of Goodrich’s lasting impact on Indiana education. During his time in the legislature, he also helped establish a robust foundation for Education Scholarship Accounts (ESAs), which give students with disabilities access to educational environments that best fit their needs. His legislation that was signed into law in March also expands ESA eligibility to include the siblings of children with disabilities, further empowering Indiana families with more educational choices.
The efficiency of both programs is no accident. Thanks to Rep. Goodrich and other state legislative leaders carefully crafted groundwork and the state’s seamless fund distribution through ClassWallet, Indiana has avoided the administrative challenges that have plagued similar programs in other states. While other states have bounced between different systems, Indiana’s approach remains a model of stability and accountability. Today, more Hoosier families have more options than ever to find the highest quality education for their children.
Rep. Chuck Goodrich’s work on both CSAs and ESAs demonstrates what’s possible when innovative education policy is paired with smart implementation. Thanks to the groundwork he has helped lay on education, students and families across Indiana will continue to benefit from the highest-quality educational opportunities for years to come.
