Eula Mae Mitchell

August 28, 1927 – December 3, 2020

Eula Mae Mitchell, 93, Noblesville, and formerly of rural Arcadia, passed away on December 3, 2020 peacefully at her home in the care of her loving family.

She was born August 28, 1927 in Noblesville. She attended Noblesville Schools and graduated from Noblesville High School with the Class of 1945.

She married Ralph W. Mitchell on October 14, 1945 and soon after marriage they moved to rural Arcadia, where they raised their family of five children. Her family was everything to her. She was a farm wife, homemaker, and consummate mother. Babe, as she was affectionately known, was an incredible cook and let no one leave her home unfed. Her family estimated she had cooked over 55,000 meals for family and friends.

Today, farming involves detailed record keeping, and she fulfilled that role also. Not only did she excel in meticulous bookkeeping, but she wrote with impeccable penmanship.

Babe was known for her friendliness, her genuine smile, and infectious personality. She would have a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and make others feel better just by being with her. She had a warm, welcoming personality and the ability to “light up a room.”

She became a pillar in her community. She was an active member of the Bethel AME Church and a member of the Dorcas Missionary Society there. She was recognized as a Torch Lighter for her service of 25 years in missionary work.

Surviving her are daughters, Geraldine (Larry) Hampton, Noblesville, and Paula (Spencer) York, Peoria, Ariz.; a son, Douglas (Debbie) Mitchell, Fishers; a sister, Eunice Collins, Noblesville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Ralph W. Mitchell; son, Gregory Mitchell; daughter, Yvonne Scott; grandson, Bryce Mitchell; and granddaughter, Tamika Hampton Dowdell.

The family will receive visitors through a Procession of Love from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Bethel AME Church. Please remain in your cars and you will be directed through the procession. Private funeral services for family and close church friends will be held prior to the Procession.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel AME Church, 17777 Little Chicago Road, Noblesville, IN 46062.

Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel is entrusted with her care and where you may send condolences at hartleyfuneralhomes.com.

The Mitchel family were wonderful people. Ralph assisted my dad when he drove the school bus by getting his tractor and pulling us out of the ditch. I was a classmate of Tootsie and They will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathy to the Mitchel family.
