Eugene Sigurd Monks

Eugene Sigurd Monks, 90, Noblesville, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 19, 1934, to Charles and Anna (Mealy) Monks in Oil City, Pa.

Gene was an electrical engineer and worked 30 years for Republic Steel as the superintendent for the finishing inspection and shipping departments (FIS) where he developed novel nondestructive testing systems for the inline inspection of steel bars, coils, rods, tubes, plates and billets. After retirement from Republic Steel, he did a brief stint at Lone Star Steel in Texas before joining General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evandale, Ohio, where he was responsible for developing inspection techniques for military aircraft engines, having visited every U.S. ally’s Air Forces to train them in the inspection processes to assure air worthiness and readiness.

Gene met the love of his life, Dorothy Gallaher, in 1953 in Elwood City, Pa., marrying the following year on August 21, 1954. He was very proud to have celebrated their 70th anniversary of marriage this year and having turned 90 in October. Gene loved spending time with Dorothy and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was an active member at numerous churches through the years, serving many duties at First Christian Church Lansing, Ill., First Church of Christ Highland, Ind., White River Christian Church Noblesville, and finally Venture Church Noblesville.

Gene is survived by his wife, Dorothy Monks; four sons, Greg (Sue) Monks, Brian (Debi) Monks, Mark (Ruth) Monks, and Jeff Monks; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Monks and William Monks; sisters, Beverly Tyson and Sandra Laurain; and his grandsons, Bradley Monks and Chase Monks.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., with services at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Timothy Monks will officiate. Burial will be at Sylvania Hills Mausoleum in New Brighton, Pa.
