For dancers, performances are their biggest events – a showcase of artistry. Over the last two years, dance schools across the world have struggled to make it to the stage due to the pandemic. At 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 at the FORUM Events Center, 11313 USA Pkwy., Fishers, En Pointe Indiana Ballet will return to a bit of normalcy and share that artistry with the Fishers community for the very first time in a Mixed Repertory Showcase, thanks to a $2,500 performing arts grant from the Fishers Arts & Culture Commission.
Two En Pointe teachers and professional Dance Kaleidoscope dancers, Emily Franks and Paige Robinson, applied for and received the grant after hearing about it within an Indy Arts Council e-newsletter. The Mixed Repertory Showcase will feature pieces from En Pointe Artistic Directors Robert Moore and Pollyana Ribeiro, along with pieces from colleague and guest artist Weston Krukow, pieces from Franks and Robinson, and David Hochoy’s, Artistic Director of Dance Kaleidoscope, celebrated Skin Walkers, a dynamic, mystical Celtic feel-good piece about a group of shape shifters.
“This is what we love to do and to be able to make a performance opportunity happen for the kids we teach is so special,” Robinson said. “As a staff, we had been talking about increasing our modern dance offerings and this is a perfect opportunity to showcase our modern and contemporary repertoire for the community.”
“All dancers need to be well-rounded and diverse, especially those seeking professional careers,” Moore said. “We are extremely proud of Paige and Emily as they spearhead this showcase and help expose our students to such diverse chorographers and forms of dance. Additionally, we are thankful to have had the opportunity to work in collaboration with our talented colleagues.”
“This is a full circle moment for me,” Franks said. “I’m getting to teach my students a piece I learned while at the University of Oklahoma in 2018, when David Hochoy was a guest choreographer. I can’t wait for the audience to enjoy this dynamic performance and see our students’ artistry on display.”
Tickets for the Mixed Repertory Showcase are $20 each and available at enpointe.yapsody.com.
