Emma Mendez to serve as county’s new Agriculture & Natural Resource Educator

Purdue Extension has hired Emma Mendez as the Agriculture and Natural Resource (ANR) Educator in Hamilton County.

Mendez

ANR Educators serve as a research-based, unbiased information source for county and state constituents on a variety of topics, including crops, ag business, livestock, natural resource, horticulture, small farms, urban ag, pesticide use and land conservation. In partnership with Purdue University subject matter experts, ANR Extension Educators can provide relevant and proven best management practices to address many clients’ situational needs.

Mendez says one of her primary goals is to help bring awareness and education on Agriculture to the community. She will begin by assessing the community’s needs, networking and building relationships. Her work will continue with community partners, developing programs and initiatives to address those needs. She will be involved in a variety of initiatives that could include anything from schools, farmers’ markets, Master Gardeners, local parks, soil and water conservation, and many more.

“I am very excited to be the ANR Educator in Hamilton County,” Mendez said. “It presents me with a great opportunity to help make an impact in this county I serve.”

Mendez was employed as the 4-H program assistant in Hamilton County this past year before taking this position. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Animal Sciences with a minor in Horticulture. She is currently working on her online master’s degree from Colorado State University in Extension Education with a certificate in Horticulture and Human Health.

Mendez is working in the Purdue Extension Hamilton County office. For more information about Agriculture and Natural Resources or other programs provided by Purdue Extension, visit extension.purdue.edu/hamilton.
