Hamilton County Emergency Management (HCEM) is a county public safety department that ensures the county is prepared for emergencies and disasters and provides coordination and support when they happen. HCEM insists that all communities should be prepared for many hazards, such as severe weather, chemical or hazardous materials incidents, floods, dam failures, earthquakes, and many more.
HCEM works with cities, towns, large corporations, non-profits, and other groups to build plans on how they all work together when bad things happen. HCEM achieves this by working with stakeholders to build and maintain comprehensive plans.
HCEM recently announced the hiring of Greg Marcuson, retired Lieutenant Colonel, Indiana Army National Guard, as the Planning Section Chief. He has a distinguished public service background, serving as a police officer in Elwood, Ind., for 10 years before moving to a full-time position in the Army National Guard.
Marcuson served his country for nearly 31 years with three combat tours in the Middle East. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and five Meritorious Service Medals. In addition to his public service, he comes to HCEM with a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Indiana State University and a master’s degree in business administration from American Military University.
Marcuson will also serve as an on-call duty officer to respond to incidents in support of police, fire, and others, the chair of the planning subcommittee for the Local Emergency Planning Committee, and work to ensure Hamilton County is ready when disasters strike.
