Ellen Massey, 77, Frankfort, Ind., passed away on October 31, 2023, at Harbour Manor Nursing Home near Noblesville.
She was born on June 25, 1946, in Round Hill, Ky., to Walker Alan and Irene (Seabolt) Johnson.
She married Edgar Bertram Massey and together they raised seven children. Surviving children include a son, Donald Ed Massey of Sheridan, and three daughters, Teresa Gordon of Indianapolis, Melissa Massey of Frankfort, and Renee Harbaugh of Sheridan.
Additional survivors are six grandchildren, Zachary, Jordan, Shana, Cody, Andy, and Michael, plus nine great-grandchildren.
Her parents, her husband, and the following children preceded her in death: daughter, Venessa Massey, and two sons, Sheldon Johnson and James Massey.
Ellen was a kind, caring person and had worked over 33 years as a nurse’s aide at the Sheridan Health Care Center. She dearly loved her family and would host big dinners at special occasions for them. She enjoyed having company just stopping in or by invitation. Leisure time would find her working on crossword puzzles, and watching old movies such as Gunsmoke, Perry Mason and various westerns. She also would travel back to her childhood home in Kentucky when she could. Her children related that she was a strict, but also a loving Mom and she knew how to use a switch.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery near Arcadia. Pastor V.J. Stover will officiate. A time of visitation will be from noon until time of the services.
