Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel is getting ready to host the IHSAA boys golf state finals for the fourth year.
The state meet will again be a 36-hole event, with 15 teams and 25 individuals playing 18 holes on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Anything can happen at this meet, and it usually does, considering how much talent there is.
Hamilton County will have three teams at the meet. Second-ranked Carmel won the Lafayette Jefferson regional with a team score of 294, the second best of all the regional scores from around the state. Top-ranked and defending champion Center Grove won the Providence regional with a score of 290.
Eleven of the top 20 ranked team in the season’s final coaches poll will be at state. Third-ranked Zionsville and No. 8 Brebeuf Jesuit also qualified from the Lafayette Jeff regional. Then there’s the Muncie Central regional. Thirteenth-ranked Cathedral won there, with No. 18 Hamilton Southeastern and No. 6 Noblesville also qualifying.
No. 5-ranked Penn won the Warsaw regional, with seventh-ranked Bishop Dwenger coming in third. No. 9 Evansville North triumphed at the Washington regional, and No. 10 Floyd Central joined Center Grove in qualifying out of Providence.
The best individual score also came out of Lafayette Jeff. Guerin Catholic’s Ty Gingerich carded a 66, easily winning medalist honors and becoming the Golden Eagles’ first-ever regional golf champion. The only other golfer to break 70 in the regional was Center Grove’s Noah Gillard, who carded a 69 in winning at Providence.
The IHSAA announced tee times for Tuesday’s first round on Friday. Gingerich will start from the first tee at 8:09 a.m.
Noblesville will begin its state tournament from the 10th tee and will be grouped with Brebeuf Jesuit and Culver Academies. Each player will go off between 9:03 and 9:39 a.m.
Back at the first tee, Southeastern’s golfers will start between 9:12 and 9:48 a.m. The Royals will play with Penn and Evansville North.
Carmel, last year’s state runner-up, begins from the first tee, with its golfers going off between 9:57 and 10:33 a.m. The Greyhounds will play with Center Grove and Cathedral; the Irish have four golfers that live in Hamilton County.
Westfield’s Andrew Lewis will also play as an individual. He will start from the 10th tee at 9:57 a.m.
