Make the Palladium your classroom
Attention, educators: A fun new facet of the Center for the Performing Arts’ upcoming 2022-2023 season is a schedule of free multimedia educational presentations designed for local school groups.
Scheduled at 10 a.m. weekdays, the hour-long programs will include three National Geographic Live science and nature presentations for grades 5 to 8 by experts from the esteemed magazine, as well as an all-ages educational performance and hands-on Q&A with the Queen’s Cartoonists, a musical ensemble that provides live soundtracks for screenings of classic animation.
The subject matter ranges from geography and paleontology to history and the arts, with study guides and other supplemental content available for classroom and home use. Student groups from public, private and home schools are welcome. (Other folks are encouraged to buy tickets for the more-extensive evening performances.)

Spots still open for storybook series
Combining art, music and crafting activities based on popular children’s books, the Center’s new Story Alive! event series for kids ages 4 to 6 kicks off in just three weeks.
The first round of weekly sessions takes place at 10 a.m. Friday mornings at the Palladium from July 15 through Aug. 19. The themes are drawn from books including Corduroy Takes a Bow, The Wild Symphony, Octopus’s Garden and Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears.

Book club to “explore” historical Venice
The Palladium Bookies, the Center’s reading club for adults, will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 8 to discuss Vivaldi’s Virgins by Barbara Quick, a novel that “re-creates 18th-century Venice at the height of its splendor and decadence” through the eyes of a teen girl studying music under a famous composer.
There’s still time to purchase or borrow a copy and join the Bookies for an evening of conversation and literary musing. To RSVP or find out more, just shoot an email to Outreach@TheCenterPresents.org.
