Sheridan’s unbeaten record in 2023 Hoosier Heartland Conference play was broken at Eastern on Friday.
The host Comets scored a late touchdown to upset the Class 1A No. 7 Blackhawks 19-14. Eastern led 7-0 after one quarter, then scored with 2:44 left in the second period to go up 13-0.
Sheridan got on the board right before halftime, as Nolan Page blasted off on a 54-yard run to score a touchdown. Owen Bell made the extra-point kick, and the ‘Hawks were within 14-7.
Sheridan took the lead in the third quarter, with Page making another 54-yard touchdown run. Bell again kicked the extra point, and the Blackhawks were in front 14-13. But the Comets took the lead with 2:13 left in the fourth period on a 20-yard passing touchdown.
Page led the rushing with 106 yards in six carries. Zach Bales added 92 yards rushing, while Eli Kolb gained 89 yards on the ground.
The ‘Hawks are 5-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall. Sheridan hosts undefeated Carroll next Friday. The Cougars are 6-0 in the HHC standings and 8-0 overall.
