Duane Charles Carlisle Sr., 84, Mount Cory, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2024, at 4:34 p.m., at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio.
He was born on January 24, 1940, in High Point, N.C., to Thomas C., and Marian (Nickle) Carlisle, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 27, 1993, he married Karen Nicholas, who survives in Mount Cory.
Duane was a U.S. Navy Veteran and spent six years in Panama. He graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Education, and taught shop in Freeport, Maine, for a few years. He then went on to be a self-employed general contractor and used his gift of construction expertise to benefit his fellow man. Once retired, he enjoyed going on mission trips to build churches and other construction projects as his passion and mission was to serve God and his fellow man. He touched many lives with his passion for his work. Many of his buildings stand in testament to his love and dedication to his craft.
In addition to his wife, surviving him are his children, Sonya Christensen (Brad) of Berrien Springs, Mich., Duane Carlisle, Jr. (Todd) of Noblesville, and Dean Carlisle (Raquel) of Madrid, Spain; his stepchildren, Robin Roberts, Kevin McGill, Bonnie Nicholas-Taylor, Debrah Banas, and Michael Nicholas; grandchildren, Sara Austin, Chad Christensen, Daniel and Mari Pickard-Carlisle, Nick and Robert Taylor, Zander and Xavier Banas, Cordelia Nicholas, and Jonathan and Natalie Roberts.
He is also survived by siblings, James Carlisle of California, Wanda Carlisle, Lisa Carlisle, and Suzy Carlisle of Maine. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy McManus; and stepson, Kelly McGill.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. October 19, 2024, at Cicero Seventh Day Adventist Church, 24445 State Road 19, Cicero. Memorial contributions in Duane’s memory may be sent to Adventist World Radio at AWR.org.
