Hamilton County’s drug abuse epidemic, the increasing toll it is taking and what is being done about it will be the topic at a meeting of the Republican Breakfast Club on Wednesday, Oct. 17. County Prosecutor Lee Buckingham, Coroner John Chalfin, Sheriff’s officer Dennis Quakenbush and State Sen. Jim Merritt will present their findings and plans.
The local impact of the nationwide epidemic was presented last year to the Breakfast Club. Speakers will update the status of the struggle against the often fatal use of drugs.
Quakenbush, now the GOP candidate for county sheriff, will discuss the effects of the epidemic and the future plans of juvenile services and the sheriff’s department. Chalfin will report on the epidemic’s death toll which has been especially severe among the younger population.

Sen. Merritt, who represents a portion of Hamilton County, will reveal his plans and progress on state legislation, and Buckingham will discuss the prosecutor’s role in combating illegal drug sale and use.
The Hamilton County Breakfast Club meets monthly to hear from speakers on topics of concern to the county, state and nation. The Oct. 17 meeting will be held at the Bridgewater Club, 3535 E. 161st St., beginning at 7:30 a.m. Further information can be learned by calling 317-849-9600.
