Dr. Kevin Cavanaugh will speak to Cicero Kiwanis Club this Saturday

Dr. Kevin Cavanaugh, President of Peterson Corn Genetics, will be the guest speaker at the Saturday Breakfast meeting of the Cicero Kiwanis Club.

Cavanaugh will give a brief presentation of what he and his company do in the seed industry and then talk about corn and why it is such a dynamic crop and so important to the U.S. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at Red Bridge Park Community Building, Cicero, this Saturday, Aug. 28.

Cavanaugh grew up in Ohio and at an early age developed a passion for working with corn. He attended Iowa State and received his bachelor’s degree in Agronomy. He then attended Purdue University and received his masters and PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Statistics.

Cavanaugh headed up the Research Department at Beck’s Hybrids as Research Director for 27 years. He was also a member of the Leadership Team at Beck’s through those years. Beck’s grew 26 times larger than when he first started in 1993. A little over one year ago, he changed roles and became part owner and President of Peterson Corn Genetics.

Peterson Corn Genetics is a company that licenses corn genetics to all corn seed companies in the U.S. This small company is growing and has momentum in the seed industry supplying genetics to many seed companies across the country.

He is married to Carey, his wife of 24 years. She is an attorney and works part time as the Deputy Prosecutor for Child Support in Tipton County. They have two sons, Jack, 22, who attends Purdue University in Information Systems Technology and Grant, who is a senior at Hamilton Heights and on the Heights tennis team.

Cavanaugh says he enjoys sports and outdoor activities and is also President of the Hamilton Heights Board of Trustees, representing Jackson Township.
