Madison Dotlich, Hamilton Heights’ senior, has signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track for Indiana University Kokomo this fall. IUK is a member of the River States Conference and a NAIA athletic institution. She is the daughter of Melissa Butler and Brian Dotlich.
Dotlich, who runs cross country and track, chose IUK because she liked the size of the school, its course offerings, and loved how she was welcomed by the entire staff. “The coaches were very helpful during my visit,” she recalled. Dotlich, a member of the Hamilton Heights Band and Indianapolis Youth Orchestra and works at Wilson’s Farm Market. She is considering majoring in radiology or education.
Dotlich has been running since the sixth grade and has put a lot of miles on her feet. Her competitive spirit, personal drive, and strong work ethic has helped her achieve in the classroom and on the track. A four-year member of Hamilton Heights Varsity Cross Country team and three-year member of Heights Track team, Dotlich earned respect and recognition with the Most Improved Award her junior year and two trips to state regionals.
A team player, Dotlich credits her dad, a former cross-country runner, for being a major influence in her development over the years. She works hard to make her family proud as she strives to reach personal goals and build her skill set. “I also love coming to practice and being with my team,” she added.
“Madison was in our Cross Country Program for seven years,” said Bill Bowen, Hamilton Heights Varsity Girls Cross Country Coach. “She was always at practice and eager to do the workout. A good team member, she contributed a lot to our program. We wish her the best of luck in the future.
“Maddie is a wonderful person who is dedicated and passionate about running,” added Bill Trachtman, Hamilton Heights Varsity Boys Cross Country Coach. “She has been a loyal member of our Cross Country program. I know she has a bright future academically and athletically.”
“We are excited for Madison to have the opportunity to continue her running career at IU Kokomo,” said Kurt Ogden, Hamilton Heights Athletic Director. “She has worked hard at the sport she loves for the past six years and it’s nice to see that she is rewarded for her efforts.”
