Dorothy Anne Knapp

December 24, 1936 – January 23, 2025

Dorothy “Dottie” Anne Knapp, 88, Arcadia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Indianapolis on December 24, 1936, to the late Kenneth and Isola (Caldwell) Ehman.

On May 29, 1955, Dorothy married the love of her life, Donald “Don” E. Knapp, and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage. Their deep love and commitment to one another were a true testament to the power of faith and family.

Dottie dedicated much of her life to nurturing her family, her church, and her community. She retired as a Pre-School Assistant from Noblesville Methodist Preschool, where her kindness and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless children. Early in her career, she was also a bank teller for Hamilton County Bank. She was a devoted member of East Union Christian Church, where she was actively involved in various ministries, including the Hands and Feet Church Group. Dorothy was also a member of the Atlanta Eastern Star, the Roaring 20’s, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, and several women’s church groups. She had a passion for music and enjoyed singing in various choirs, and she often played the piano for funerals both at Hartley Funeral Home and at her church, providing comfort to families during their times of loss.

Dorothy loved spending time with her family and was particularly devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sports and activities, crocheting, needlepointing, and sitting on the porch swing while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. She had a heart for others, regularly sending out cards of encouragement to family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her beloved husband, Donald “Don” E. Knapp of Arcadia; sons, Gregory A. (Debbie Pickett) Knapp of Arcadia and Mark E. (Teri) Knapp of Noblesville; grandchildren, Chris (Heather) Knapp of Cicero, Ryan (Lisa) Knapp of Arcadia, Adam (Brittny) Knapp of Noblesville, Daniel (Stacy) Knapp of Noblesville, Jared (fiancée Andrea) Knapp of Dallas, Texas, and Travis (Allie) Knapp of Pendleton; nine great-grandchildren, Rees, Bryce, Sylvia, Ellie, Lane, Gracesyn, Lincoln, Natalie, and Hayden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Michelle Knapp; and brothers, Kenneth C. Ehman, Jr., Ted Ehman, and Jack Ehman.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, 2025, at East Union Christian Church, 1711 E. 296th St., Atlanta.
