While on a family vacation in the Dominican Republic, Carmel girls varsity basketball coach Kevin Sweeney was involved in an accident in the ocean that broke three vertebrae in his neck and back (C3, C6 and C7).
Fortunately, he does have full movement other than numbness and tingling down his right arm and hand. Unfortunately, however, his medical insurance will not cover any of the costs until he is back in the United States.
Because Sweeney was not able to take a commercial flight, he was transported via medevac from the Dominican Republic to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The estimated cost for medevac transport alone is $22,000.
Sweeney is the husband of Brieann (Campbell) Sweeney and father of five boys.
