Donatello’s owner announces run for Carmel City Council

To my fellow Carmel residents,

Carmel, Indiana, is a special place – for you, for me, for all of our neighbors who want to live, work, play and sink our roots deep into what I believe is the Best Place to Live in America.

Aasen

It’s where my parents and I chose to open our small business. It’s where I met my wife, Nicole, and where we have decided to start a family of our own. We were blessed with the news that we are expecting our first child due in December and they will grow up a Greyhound. We are proud to call Carmel our home and we think the City’s future is bright.

I’m writing you today to announce I’ve decided to take a major step toward keeping Carmel on the right track and give back to the City that has already given me so much. This is why in 2019 I will run for a seat on the Carmel City Council.

The current Councilor in my district, Jeff Worrell, has announced he will be running At-Large in 2019 instead of running in a council district. I consider Jeff a friend and believe he has done a fantastic job on the Council representing his district.

I share in the vision of our city leadership, which for the past 20 years has built a community that is attractive to major employers and corporate headquarters, tourists and visitors and residents. I would like to see that vision continue in the future while also keeping our property taxes low and our debt manageable.

I’m happy to meet to listen to your ideas and concerns but first let me explain why I am qualified be on the City Council.

First, I’m a small business owner. Having started Donatello’s Italian Restaurant in 2010, I know how to stay within a budget and how to prioritize spending with the greatest return on investment. I speak to residents and business owners on a daily basis and I understand their needs. I truly believe that Carmel is a great city for opening your own business.

Second, I’ve also spent years working as an investigative journalist for the weekly Current in Carmel newspaper. I know how to ask tough questions and dig deep into any topic. I always look at both sides of an issue. I’ve covered Carmel city government for more than four years. I have attended government meetings and I’ve sat down regularly with city leaders to stay informed. I understand how the city works and I’m in touch with the issues that residents truly care about.

Finally, I have already been finding ways to give back to our community. I am proud that Donatello’s has been host to several fundraisers I organized which raised thousands for local nonprofits, such as the Humane Society for Hamilton County. I continue to be an active member of the Carmel Rotary Club, OneZone and Hamilton County Young Republicans as well as serving on boards for both the Carmel Education Foundation and Janus Developmental Services. This past summer, I also enjoyed serving on the committee for CarmelFest, helping raise money for the fireworks and the festival. I’m also a 2016 graduate of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy and I serve on a committee for HAND, Inc. I’m currently participating in the Expedition program to learn more about the Carmel Clay school system.

Thanks for reading this letter. I hope you share my vision and my enthusiasm for our City. I invite you to learn more about me and about ways you can be involved in my campaign.
