Bernlohr
The Domestic Violence Prevention Network (DVPN) announced Tuesday the appointment of Mariann McGee Bernlohr as Interim Director, effective Monday, April 21.
Bernlohr brings nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership and strategic consulting experience, with deep expertise in program development, governance, and capacity building to the organization.
A leader in the nonprofit sector, Bernlohr is the founder and president of Iris Consulting, where she supports organizations in executive succession planning, board and staff development, and strategic growth. She most recently served as Senior Director of Affiliate Capacity Building at Horizons National, where she provided consulting and support to more than 70 affiliates across the country. Her leadership experience also includes serving as Executive Director of Horizons at St. Richard’s Episcopal School, and management roles with the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives and the YMCA.
“Mariann brings a calm, steady presence and a values-driven approach to her work, which is exactly what we need during this time of transition,” DVPN Board Chair Kristen Moreland said. “Her deep commitment to equity and community, coupled with her exceptional experience in nonprofit governance and strategy, will help ensure the continuity of our mission while we plan for the future.”
Bernlohr is actively engaged in the Indianapolis community, serving on the board of Indy Reads and as a founding board member of St. Nicholas Early Learning. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana University and a Master’s in Teaching from Hamline University.
“It’s truly an honor to step into this role and be part of the critical work DVPN is doing to prevent domestic violence and support survivors,” Bernlohr said. “I recognize the weight of this moment and the responsibility it carries. My priority is to listen – to the staff, to the survivors we serve, and to the community partners who know this work best. I’m committed to walking alongside this team with humility, accountability, and a deep respect for the lived experiences that shape this organization.”
The DVPN Board of Directors will continue its search for a permanent executive director, with the goal of a full-time hire later this year.
