Dewey Vanzant, 90, passed peacefully into the arms of his beloved Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 23, 2020 surrounded at home by his loving wife and daughter after several years of declining health. Dewey was born in St. Charles, Va., to Bill and Sarah Vanzant and had nine siblings, all of whom preceded him in death.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary Jane; his daughter, Constance Jo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After attending St. Charles High School, Dewey enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1946 to 1949. He was a Corporal in the Military Police, serving in Japan in the 35th U.S. Air Force Police Squadron.
In Dewey’s younger years, he enjoyed fishing, attending professional wrestling matches, watching sports, and seeing NHS football and basketball games while his daughter was a cheerleader. He was an excellent auto mechanic and painstakingly restored many antique cars and trucks to perfection. Later, Dewey became a machinist at Kitterman’s Machine Shop until his retirement.
After retiring, he was an avid vegetable gardener and took immaculate care of his lawn. But most of all, Dewey loved his wife and daughter and the Lord Jesus. He was a wonderful husband and father.
As a devoted and faithful Christian, Dewey was a member of the Noblesville Baptist Church on Pleasant Street. He loved spreading the Gospel and talking about Christ to all he spoke with before his health declined.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Noblesville Baptist Church, 1338 E. Pleasant St., Noblesville, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Pastor Seth Leeman will officiate. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery, 4180 Westfield Road, Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, family asks that contributions be made to Noblesville Baptist Church.
Dewey’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Suburban Hospice for their care and kindness towards the end; to Randall & Roberts Funeral Homes; and for the many prayers and love from family and friends.
