The Hamilton County Democratic Party has announced an additional candidate to join the Nov. 7 general election ballot after holding a caucus of eligible Precinct Chairs. Melanie Brown is now running for Carmel City Council in the Northwest District.
According to Indiana Code, after the primary, if there is a vacancy on the ballot after the filing deadline, major political parties can appoint or “caucus in” individuals to run in the November general election. A caucus of elected and appointed Precinct Chairs participates in these activities. State and county parties had until noon on July 3 to hold a caucus to fill ballot vacancies.
“We are incredibly proud to continue to make municipal election history in this county,” Hamilton County Democratic Party Chair Dayna Colbert said. “We’re making history with 20 candidates across the county, eight each in Carmel and Fishers. Our candidates made history with the amount of money they raised before the primary election. We’ve made history with the number of votes received in the primary. And we’re ready to make history again in November.”
