Democratic candidates looking to change landscape of Westfield City Council

Submitted by the Hamilton County Democratic Party

The Hamilton County Democratic Party has announced two candidates running for Westfield City Council: Gary Lane (At-Large) and Alexis Lowry (District 4).

“Westfield is going through a period of change, and we are excited to present every voter with a choice this November,” Hamilton County Democratic Party Chair Dayna Colbert said. “More young professionals and new families are moving into the area, attracted by safe neighborhoods, great schools, and economical housing. Lane and Lowry are focused on bringing more exceptional quality of life amenities to the city, and managing them responsibly.”

Colbert said issues with transparency surrounding Grand Park and crossing obstacles and proper lighting for the city’s trail network shows its time for Democrats to have a place on the city council.

“Grand Park was a great asset to the city,” Colbert said. “However, a lack of transparency and accusations of nepotism have led to headache upon headache for Westfield residents. The expanding trail network in Westfield is another highlight for the growing community, but the inability to address crossing obstacles and installation of unclear light systems pose a serious concern to pedestrians. Ensuring that residents can use the amenities the city develops is key.”

The Primary election will be held Tuesday, May 2, and the General Election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 7. This is the first time Democrats have been on the City Council ballot since 2006, when still a Town Council, which Colbert said reflects the trend of Westfield voters looking for choices in their city leadership. The Hamilton County Democratic Party encourages voters to make their voices heard in the Democratic primary.
