Dear Editor:
Hamilton County is hiding behind HIPAA and continues its lack of transparency concerning COVID-19 data. This is an abuse of the HIPAA regulations, and we have to wonder why the County Health Department and County Government continue to hide.
If you look up the intent of HIPAA it is to protect an individual from having their medical information made available to others. But at the same time, under the HIPAA rules, data can be disclosed in an aggregated data set where individuals are not named.
Hamilton County continues its lack of transparency even at this critical time. The public has a right to details in this COVID-19 crisis.
