Hamilton Southeastern got back on the winning track Friday, triumphing in its Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener.
The Royals won a tough home game over Franklin Central 45-36. Southeastern led 12-7 after the first quarter, with Maya Makalusky scoring eight points during that period.
The Royals held a 23-19 lead at halftime, but outscored the Flashes in each of the next two quarters. Riley Makalusky took over in the second half, pouring in 12 points. She would go on to lead Southeastern with 16 points and six rebounds. Olivia Brown had an outstanding game, with nine points, seven steals and five assists.
“Wasn’t our best shooting night, but we found a way,” said HSE coach Brian Satterfield. “Our defense was tremendous and kept us in the game.”
Southeastern is 4-2 overall. The Royals’ next game is Tuesday at Brownsburg, in another HCC contest.
