Sheridan started fast on offense, and started and finished well on defense, and that added up to a 57-35 win over Western Boone Tuesday at Larry Hobbs Hall.
The Blackhawks blasted out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter. Freshman Kenzie Garner scored 10 points during that period, while Ashley Webel threw in a 3-pointer. The Stars got their offense going in the second period, but Sheridan kept up its offensive pace, leading the ‘Hawks to a 38-23 halftime advantage. Garner had 18 first-half points.
“We just talked about how WeBo’s a really good team and how they do a really good job of running in offensive transition,” said Sheridan coach Jaidlin Bradshaw. The coach said she and her staff emphasized that “we had to have great defensive transtion and be on point with that and not let them score a lot of points,” then make sure their offensive transition was working as well. Bradshaw said she thought “we did a good job of that.”
The Blackhawks out scored WeBo in each quarter, including a tight third period. Sheridan led 50-33 at the end of the quarter, with Chaney Smith scoring eight points during the third. The ‘Hawks then clamped down on defense again, allowing the Stars only two points in the fourth.
Garner led with 20 points, followed by Smith with 13 and Webel with 12. Bradshaw was pleased with her team’s depth.
“We’re really fortunate that one through 15, 16 were pretty much able to come in and do our job,” said Bradshaw.
Sheridan is 3-2 and plays at Frankfort next Tuesday.
