Dean Emmerson

September 16, 1947 – April 27, 2021

Dean Emmerson, 73, Noblesville, passed away on April 27, 2021, surrounded by family. He was born on September 16, 1947, in Sheffield, Ill., to Roger and Margaret (Lauwagie) Emmerson. Dean battled Parkinson’s for over 24 years with grace and perseverance and never complained.

Dean was a project manager at Verizon for 30 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Indiana Parkinson Foundation and the Climb; and a board member of Noblesville Babe Ruth Baseball and Noblesville Girls Softball Association. Prior to moving to Indiana, he was president of Bloomington Normal Girls Softball Association (BNGSA), coached softball and baseball, and was a Cub Scouts Pack leader for years in Illinois. Dean proudly took care of the fields for Noblesville Babe Ruth (Forest Park) and Noblesville Girls Softball. Due to his tireless work, Emmerson Field at Forest Park was named after him in 2008, and April 20, 2013, was declared Dean Emmerson Day in the city of Noblesville.

Dean’s passion was going to and supporting all of his grandkids’ activities. He also participated in the Choose to Move Race for Parkinson’s every race since the beginning.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon (née Martin) Emmerson; children, Sarah (Brian) Cleverly, Robert (Jennifer) Emmerson, Stephanie (Brian) Dougherty, and Ryan (Jessi) Emmerson; grandchildren, Ashley (Ben) Yoder, Alex, and Andy Cleverly, Lauren and Audra Emmerson, Emmerson and Cooper Dougherty, Addison, Benjamin, and Samuel Emmerson; brother, Roger Emmerson Jr.; and sister, Jane (Dave) Bitting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Dutch and Bea Martin; his sister-in-law, Bev Emmerson; and his three beloved dogs, Rascal, Jake, and Clara.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Randall and Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Road, Noblesville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the funeral home with Robert Emmerson officiating. Burial will be at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Parkinson Foundation and Noblesville Babe Ruth.
