Dr. Peg Dispenzieri, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, along with the School Governing Board of Guerin Catholic High School, has announced to faculty and staff that Deacon Rick Wagner has been offered, and has accepted, the position of President for Guerin Catholic High School.

“I am excited and grateful to Deacon Rick Wagner for accepting the invitation to serve as the next president of Guerin Catholic,” Dispenzieri said. “His leadership in a variety of areas, ability to inspire others, and love of sharing his faith is a blessing for the students, staff and the community.”

Deacon Rick has been married to his wife, Carol, for 38 years. They have four children and nine grandchildren. In addition to his deacon formation coursework, he has a B.S. in Education, an M.S. in Psychology, and an M.S. in Educational Administration.

Wagner spent 30 years working as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and administrator in Catholic high schools and served as Principal of Guerin Catholic from 2007 to 2013. Upon leaving Guerin Catholic, he served as Principal and Vice President for Mission and Ministry for Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis.

“My years as Principal of Guerin Catholic greatly influenced my formation as both a man of faith, and ultimately, a deacon in the Church,” Wagner said. “I am honored to pay it forward by serving as its President. I am grateful to Bishop Doherty for this opportunity … I left Guerin Catholic eight years ago. When I returned, I was pleased to see that, while there have been some changes to the building and some turnover in the staff, the mission is alive and well.”

Most recently, Deacon Rick served as the Director of the Permanent Deacon Formation program for Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and has served as Interim President of Guerin Catholic since February of this year.

Wagner was ordained in 2012 and is assigned to St. Pius X Parish in Indianapolis. For his ministry of charity, he works with an organization serving the unsheltered homeless near downtown Indianapolis.
